Job Summary: Under the limited direction of the attending Physician or designee, the Nurse Practitioner obtains and records patient medical history; performs physical examinations; orders, evaluates, and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans. Prepares, develops, and initiates treatment plan in consultation with attending physician; performs routine invasive procedures; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Educates and counsels patient and family members on condition, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery, and other related areas. Participates in the management of patient care, determining the need for consultation to ensure the continuity and quality of care. Job Description: Obtains and records and complete medical history of the patient at both STD and TB clinic Performs physical examinations and documents results of patients seen in STD and TB clinic Orders, evaluates, and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans, including laboratory tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, blood products, and interdisciplinary consults in collaboration with the attending physician or designee and according to established guidelines of STD and TB. This includes managing patients with a diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections, patients living with HIV, patients with active TB disease, latent TB infection, patient referred for TB screening through CDC (patient with B1/B2 status), refugee centers, primary care etc.), and TB screening for immigration services along with filling out immigration paperwork Prepares, develops, and initiates treatment plans in consultation with the attending physician. Develops outpatient care and writes medication and other orders as prescribed by law Performs routine invasive procedures Performs diagnostic testing including provider-performed, induced sputum at TB clinic, clinical microscopy and point-of-service testing after being trained and approved through personal competency testing by the laboratory technical supervisor at STD clinic Participate in laboratory quality assurance with semiannual competency testing on provider-performed microscopy and other tests for which the NP is approved. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures based on education, experience, and departmental needs Educates and counsels patient and family members on condition, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery, and other related areas Provides clinical supervision of STD and TB clinic RNs who also perform limited histories, exams, collection of specimens for laboratory testing, and who provide treatment per standing orders Responsible for a variety of patient care activities in assigned outpatient clinic (e.g., performs genital, anal, and pelvic exams, collects specimens for STD testing, works with Disease Intervention Specialists regarding partner services, coordinates with on-site Prevention Counselors, coordinates with ID/HIV clinic staff regarding linkage of HIV patients to care, and implements expedited partner therapy and partner delivered therapy per policy). Responds to emergencies and initiate appropriate treatment until relieved of their duties by physician or emergency personnel. Works assigned hours that will include clinic sessions outside of normal work hours such as an early evening clinic. May have extended hours on certain days due to urgent patient needs. Works with clinic staff based on established workflows and collaboratively problem-solves to meet clinic, client, and public health needs. May participate in clinical and experimental research, including statistical analysis of data Maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate educational and organizational activities Performs related duties as assigned. Manages contact investigation for active TB cases Provide supervision to TB Disease Intervention Specialist Staff and oversee their management.
