About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Access department will perform psychiatric intakes for new patients and assist with the ongoing management of psychiatric conditions for outpatients. This role involves performing medical history and physical examinations, collaborating with the leadership team on new initiatives, providing staff education, and maintaining clinical competency and licensing. The position requires specialized evaluation and treatment modalities, including pharmacotherapy, medicine/neurology, addictionology, neuropsychiatric assessment, medical pharmacology, infectious disease protocols, and physical examination and assessment. The practitioner must also demonstrate an understanding of developmental tasks and the ability to establish rapport with adolescents, adults, and older adults/geriatrics.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved training program with certification in the treatment of geriatric, adult and adolescent patients.
  • Current license to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Texas.
  • Controlled substance registration (CSR) with Texas Department of Public Safety and registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
  • Solid educational and clinical experience in general medicine practice with a focus on psychiatric practice in an ambulatory setting.
  • Good diagnostic skills and clinical judgment as informed by the appropriate protocols and prescriptive authority.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practice of medicine.
  • Two or more years of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant are desired.
  • Strong educational background and practice in a non-medical setting will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance with the Medical Staff By-Laws and Rules and Regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the Menninger Clinic and its Corporate Compliance committee, the standards of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and other medical record and legal requirements.
  • Perform psychiatric intakes for new patients admitted to the Menninger Clinic Outpatient Services department as directed by the supervising physician.
  • Assist with the ongoing management of psychiatric conditions for outpatients in collaboration with other providers as indicated.
  • Perform Medical History and Physical Examinations for outpatient services as requested.
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Director and other members of the leadership team with developing, supporting and implementing new initiatives for the Outpatient Services department.
  • Assist with holiday, weekend or vacation coverage as assigned.
  • Provide education and training to departmental staff as assigned.
  • Maintain clinical competency and licensing by completing appropriate continuing education requirements.
  • Maintain competencies and demonstrate skill and knowledge with specialized evaluation and treatment modalities as indicated: Pharmacotherapy (Psychiatric and Medical), Medicine/Neurology, Addictionology, Neuropsychiatric Assessment, Medical Pharmacology, Infectious Disease Protocols, Physical Examination and Assessment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of developmental tasks and special needs for and the ability to establish rapport with: Adolescents, Adults, Older Adults/Geriatrics.
