The Access Nurse ensures diagnostic scheduling of appointments is done effectively to deliver high quality care for Methodist patients. Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum of three to five years medical/surgical experience to include extensive knowledge of hospital/health operations and general background in all areas of nursing practice.
  • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance authorization experience.
  • Certification(s) in area of specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Performs multi-resource appointment scheduling for outpatient diagnostic services utilizing the computer based scheduling system to meet customer’s needs.
  • Facilitates physician verbal or faxed orders to initiate patient services.
  • Collaborates with physician office staff and diagnostic departments to determine appropriate indications, patient instructions and education are given for proper preparation and understanding of scheduled test/procedure by using clear communication skills.
  • Review, delegate and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the provision of the state's Nurse Practice Act and the Professional Standards of Practice.
  • Right task (within the scope of practice, according to the job description, based on the desired outcome, task routine, non-complex, low risk and predictable outcome).
  • Right person (assess competency by: certification/licensure, job description, skills checklist, demonstrated skill).
  • Right communication (clear, concise, correct, complete).
  • Right feedback: the Reciprocal Process (ask teammates' input first, recognize effort, get teammates' solution to problem, check off points).
  • Fiscally accountable to include obtaining authorization information, at the time of scheduling from the provider office clinic staff with appropriate current procedural terminology (CPT) code, valid dates of service and call reference number if authorization isn’t required.
  • Maintains teamwork, positive mentoring and willingly assists with training of employees by positively assisting with the implementation of new procedures and job functions to enhance Access Team’s services.
