Follows established nursing standards, procedures, and practices. Accountabilities Diagnoses patient conditions and their causes. Interviews patients about symptoms and complaints, and determines if a psychiatric disorder has a physiological or emotional basis. 20% Screens patients for physical illness and analyzes explanations for psychiatric illness, such as developmental issues, family dysfunction, genetics, neurological trauma or social or cultural problems. Assesses risk factors for mental illness and broader wellness evaluations. 20% Provides a range of therapies to patients. Conducts individual, group or family counseling sessions. Writes prescriptions for psychotropic medications under the supervision of psychiatrists and when state regulations allow. - 15% For patients on medications, monitors the use and documents treatment results. For patients experiencing a mental crisis, may intervene with therapy or medication. Responsible for case management. - 15% Evaluates patient progress and reports results to the treatment team. Works with other medical professionals to evaluate or change treatment plans. - 10% Educates staff and patients’ families about mental illness, treatment and prevention. - 10% Participates in operational assessments in search of revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies and billing opportunities. - 5% Participates in professional activities. Also, may conduct research, evaluate outcomes or provide peer review for scholarly publications. - 5% Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, director or executive.
