For more information, please visit: www.alpaswellnesscenters.org [http://www.alpaswellnesscenters.org] Job Summary: The Nurse Practitioner - PMHNP/FNP (Dual Certified) is a key medical provider responsible for delivering integrated psychiatric and medical care to clients in our residential treatment facility. This role blends psychiatric evaluation and medication management with medical oversight, withdrawal management, and primary care support, ensuring continuity of care across admissions, detox, and residential stabilization. This position is ideal for a provider who is comfortable working across scopes and thrives in a collaborative inpatient behavioral health environment.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted Maryland PMHNP license
  • Current, unrestricted Maryland FNP license
  • Board certification as PMHNP-BC and FNP-BC
  • Active DEA registration (or ability to obtain promptly)
  • BLS required
  • Minimum 1 year post-licensure experience in any of the following roles: Psychiatry, Addiction, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Strong diagnostic, psychopharmacologic, and medical decision-making skills
  • Comfortable managing complex patients in a fast-paced inpatient environment
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and time-management skills
  • High standards for documentation quality and regulatory compliance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Addiction treatment including medically supervised withdrawal and co-occurring disorders strongly preferred
  • Experience with Kipu EMR or similar systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and diagnostic impressions.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications. Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, adherence, and safety.
  • Provide ongoing psychiatric follow-ups and crisis evaluations as clinically indicated
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and case reviews
  • Perform admission history & physicals (H&Ps) and medical assessments
  • Manage medically supervised withdrawal, utilizing established detox protocols
  • Conduct sick calls, follow-ups, and urgent or non-emergent medical evaluations
  • Interpret labs, vitals, EKGs, and other diagnostic data
  • Coordinate care for patients with complex medical or co-occurring conditions
  • Support safe discharge planning, including medication reconciliation and continuity of care
  • Work closely with the Medical Director, nursing leadership, clinical staff, and case management
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and hand-offs to ensure seamless care transitions
  • Communicate changes in medical or psychiatric status promptly to relevant teams
  • Collaborate with Utilization Review to support medical necessity and payer compliance
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation in Kipu EMR, including: Psychiatric evaluations H&Ps Medication orders and progress notes
  • Ensure documentation aligns with ASAM criteria, The Joint Commission, Maryland Department of Health, and DEA standards
  • Participate in chart audits, performance improvement initiatives, and quality assurance activities
  • Educate patients (and families, with consent) on diagnoses, medications, withdrawal expectations, and recovery planning
  • Model trauma-informed, patient-centered, recovery-oriented communication
