Practice locations can include Duke Health's three hospitals or over 140 primary care and specialty care clinics throughout North Carolina.

We are seeking a compassionate, highly qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Geriatrics Evaluation and Treatment (GET) Clinic team at Duke Health North Durham. The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and geriatrics experience. They will work with an interprofessional team to provide direct patient care services in our consultative clinic. They will be comfortable working in an autonomous environment and comfortable knowing when to seek advice from other members of the medical team. Primary hours will be Monday-Friday day shift with flexibly to meet patient needs. No evening or weekend call. Practice will be limited to consultative geriatrics with an emphasis on longitudinal dementia care, and assessment and treatment of geriatrics syndromes. Schedule consists of 8 clinic sessions per week plus 2 administrative sessions with a mix of new and return patients as determined by supervising geriatricians and clinic needs.
Practice will include some virtual clinic sessions using video telehealth services for assessment and treatment of acute and chronic geriatric syndromes of new and return patients.

Requirements

• Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
• Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
• BLS required.
• Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
• Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• 1+ years of geriatrics APP experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain high standards of patient care
• Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform complete physical and cognitive examinations.
• Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
• Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level judgement - this includes prescribing appropriate medications.
• Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
• Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
• Collaborate, support, and build strong relationships with supervising and back-up physicians and APP colleagues
• Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
• Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
