About The Position

Ochsner Health is seeking an Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their inter-professional team. This role involves providing efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective care in various settings including outpatient clinics, telehealth visits, and occupational medicine. The practitioner will work under the supervision of a Medical Director within a collaborative practice model, adhering to the scope of their licensing, credentialing, and privileges. Key responsibilities include obtaining patient history, performing assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and providing direct patient care and management of health conditions, utilizing prescriptive authority or referring to other healthcare providers. The position also involves participation in quality improvement initiatives, staff development, and patient/caregiver education, while taking responsibility for professional development. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved physician assistant training program (for Physician Assistant)
  • Licensed in the state of practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Family Nurse Practitioner ANCC/AANPCP Certified or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC/AANPCP Certified and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC/AANPCP Certified
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority within the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing
  • Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level.
  • Reliable transportation as must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
  • Ability to work independently as clinics are typically single or double provider coverage.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years’ related working experience
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Medical Examiner Certification and registration with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
  • Maintains an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
  • Provides education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
  • Performs duties including but not limited to ordering and in interpreting radiology tests, Point of Care Testing and lab testing, EKG reading, minor procedures (lacerations, incision and drainage abscesses), and pediatric population (6 month and older).
  • Provides training and education to staff, including new APPs and students.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
  • Ensures compliance with the company’s Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
