The Cooley Dickinson Hospital has a medical staff of approximately 500 active members and the system includes the hospital, Cooley Dickinson Medical Group, VNA, and Hospice. The Cooley Dickinson Emergency Department handles approximately 35,000 patients annually, staffed by compassionate medical professionals. Advanced practice providers (APPs), including Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, work under the supervision of board-certified emergency medicine physicians to deliver high-quality, safe, and timely care for diverse patient complaints. The APP team manages high acuity patients and procedures, has opportunities to teach APP students, and benefits from an internal educational program for clinical development. APPs will care for patients of all ages, support all areas of the department, perform medical screening exams, and respond to acute developments during patient stays. The department also includes physicians, emergency-care nurses certified in trauma care, advanced cardiac response, and pediatric life support, along with support teams like technicians, administrative staff, and patient observers. This is a full-time, 40-hour APP position (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) within the Emergency Department at the Cooley Dickinson Main Campus located at 30 Locust St, Northampton, MA.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
  • Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • 2 years of experience as a PA required

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of Emergency Medicine as an NP or PA experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
  • May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.
  • Assume care for patients of all ages and will support all areas of the department.
  • Perform medical screening exams and respond to any acute developments during the patients’ stay.
