JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of their collaborative physician; plans, directs, and evaluates patient health care in primary health care services. Examines and treats chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries/illnesses. Performs selected laboratory testing, referrals to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides advanced nursing care in collaboration with physician and/or other members of health care team. 2. Performs physical examinations and record patient's health and psychosocial and family histories; orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic studies and tests to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs; initiates, evaluates, and modifies patient's therapeutic plan; evaluates, interprets, and records the developmental status of patient and family in order to plan and implement interventions; engages in decision making and implementation of therapeutic plans in collaboration with other members of the health care team. 3. Supervises, directs, and evaluates nursing staff; directs the ordering of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and equipment; maintains accurate records, reports and statistics related to the health care of patient and the Center's funding regulation requirements. 4. Work with the Chief Operations Officer (COO) in regard to non-medical duties and is subject to Center's policies and procedures. 5. Performs other related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor and/or Chief Medical Officer. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Performance will be evaluated by the Lead Nurse Practitioner or designee annually wherein an overall satisfactory rating is considered as a minimum acceptable level of performance. HEALTH AND SAFETY: 1. Must adhere to safety policies and procedures. 2. Must receive Safety and Hazardous Communication training annually. 3. Must exercise universal precautions and comply with safety standards and procedures. 4. Knowledgeable of OSHA and CLIA requirements to assure compliance. PRIVACY RULE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS: 1. Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) policies and procedures. 2. Must successfully complete Privacy Rule compliance training annually or as revisions are made to the policies and procedures. 3. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by learning to protect FPHC patient's medical privacy. 4. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by appropriately maintaining our patient information in compliance with national standards. 5. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by providing appropriate security of FPHC patient records PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION (PHI) ACCESS -UNRESTRICTED/ RESTRICTED- For purposes of HIPAA Compliance there are 4 workforce categories, which define the level of access to PHI that is granted to the incumbent. This position is classified under PRIMARY PROVIDERS and therefore granted UNRESTRICTED access- for the purpose of providing patient care. RESTRICTED- for other uses and disclosures, to be defined according to workforce member's specific job duties. Use and disclosure must be in accordance with applicable privacy policies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master degree in nursing science from an accredited college or university. Licensed and certified to practice in the State of Alabama. Clinical practice experience preferred. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES AND REGISTRATIONS: Alabama Board Nurse Licensure, BCLS or ACLS Certification preferred, Board Certified OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual/bicultural will be considered. Must have outgoing and friendly personality with ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees. Must have ability to establish good rapport, gain confidence and cooperation of patients. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: 1. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. 2. Must be able to express ideas clearly and concisely; and exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. 3. Work requires sitting, standing, stooping, bending, driving and a considerable amount of walking, moving and examining objects at high and low reach, and reading. 4. Must be able to lift and move patients as needed.
