About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Mid-Wife/Physician Assistant works in collaboration with Clinicians, Patient Services Assistants, and Clinic Case Manager to provide general review of systems, sexual health and reproductive care services and education for individuals of all ages and genders. This position will support our Clinics in Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, and our mobile unit. Supports CAPSLO's mission by providing direct patient care for the clinics.

Requirements

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Mid-wife.
  • Must have current Medical License
  • California State Dispensing Certification preferred or appropriate pharmacology course for eligibility for State dispensing number.
  • Must provide current CPR certification prior to beginning employment.
  • Valid California Driver's License, reliable insured vehicle, and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive medical histories and follow-up assessments for patients.
  • Provides counseling on contraception, sexually transmitted infections, menopause, and reproductive health.
  • Performs physical exams including thyroid, heart, lungs, breast, abdomen, pelvis, genitals, and extremities.
  • Inserts/removes intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants; fits diaphragms and educates on self-breast exams.
  • Identifies gynecologic and non-gynecologic conditions, utilizing microscopy for wet mounts when needed.
  • Responds to patient inquiries related to reproductive health and documents communications accurately.
  • Offers guidance on birth control methods, medications, hormone therapy, nutrition, exercise, and wellness.
  • Coordinates referrals and collaborates with Case Managers for follow-up care.
  • Supports abnormal follow-up procedures and participates in quality assurance initiatives.
  • Assists in training new staff and adheres to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Actively contributes to clinic meetings and upholds the agency's mission and strategic goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
