About The Position
The nurse practitioner functions within their scope of practice as a healthcare provider, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families across practice settings. They demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered within the inpatient setting. The nurse practitioner demonstrates an advanced level of clinical knowledge, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. They work with administration staff, nurses, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other staff to assure safe, effective, quality patient care. About Ortho Inpatient Services: The orthopedic inpatient unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital provides comprehensive orthopedic care delivered by Washington University specialists in a multidisciplinary setting. Patients receive coordinated treatment from surgeons, nurses, therapists, and other specialists, with support from a dedicated orthopedic concierge service to assist with non-medical needs. About Orthopedics Outpatient Services: The orthopedic outpatient service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital provides comprehensive musculoskeletal care through Washington University orthopedic specialists, covering areas such as joint replacement, spine, sports medicine, trauma, foot and ankle, hand, and oncology.
Requirements
- Master's Degree - Nursing
- <2 years
- No Experience
- Licensed APRN in Missouri
- National APRN Board Certifcatn
- BJH: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP- with appropriate experience)
Nice To Haves
- 2 yrs of Nurse Practitioner experience and/or prior Ortho bedside/inpatient experience as an RN
- Doctorate - Nursing
- 2-5 years
- BJH: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)
Responsibilities
- Provides compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient and family-centered care for health recovery, illness prevention, treatment of critically ill, or end-of-life care.
- Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs in an academic inpatient setting.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other health professionals.
- Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for professional practice by participating in professional development, quality initiative/performance activities, and implementing standards of care within area of specialization.
- BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
