About The Position

Palliative care provides care for patients and their families who are experiencing advanced, life-threatening illness and helps them live as well as possible through excellent symptom management, advance care planning and psychosocial support. The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works collaboratively with the Palliative interdisciplinary team including a consultant physician. The focus of the job includes providing outpatient care to complex medical patients with a high symptom burden, ranging from patients who are undergoing treatment with curative intent as well as those who may be nearing the end of life. The NP or PA provides comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosis, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies. The NP or PA will collaborate closely with referring specialties including but not limited to Oncology, Hematology, Neurology, and Cardiology.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner: Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certified as an ANP, ACNP or FNP.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
  • Certified or eligible for certification.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Prescriptive authority should be obtained within 2 months of hire.
  • Acquisition of DEA number is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required and must also have demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS recommended.
  • Hospice and Palliative Medicine certification highly encouraged within 2 years of hire.
