About The Position

Mayo Clinic is top-ranked in more specialties than any other care provider according to U.S. News & World Report. As we work together to put the needs of the patient first, we are also dedicated to our employees, investing in competitive compensation and comprehensive benefit plans - to take care of you and your family, now and in the future. And with continuing education and advancement opportunities at every turn, you can build a long, successful career with Mayo Clinic. The cardiovascular surgery NP/PA hospitalists work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, critical care consultants, fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, and others to provide 24/7 coverage managing high acuity patients in the Pediatric CVS (Cardiovascular Surgery) ICU (Intensive Care Unit). This position involves the comprehensive, longitudinal management of pediatric and adult congenital postoperative patients as they transition from the ICU to progressive care (PCU) levels. The inpatient role requires timely assessments, interventions, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions. The NP/PA also assists in discharge coordination and patient and family education to promote recovery and support safe transitions of care. Mayo Clinic is ranked among the Best Hospitals for heart care and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report. The patient population that the NP/PAs manage includes adult and pediatric CV surgical, heart and lung transplant, and device patients (VA/VV ECMO, RVAD/LVAD, Berlin Heart, Impella, and/or IABP) located in the ICU. Working alongside talented surgeons and critical care consultants, this diverse patient population provides you the opportunity to hone your skills into a specialty area and promote continuous learning as you care for these high acuity patients. Shifts are 13-hour day/night rotation with 17 self-scheduled per year, 2 assigned holidays per year, and no call responsibility. The ability to pick your own schedule allows for valued time off for personal pursuits, development, and life/work balance. There are abundant opportunities for continued professional growth within our large cardiovascular surgery APP team. Teaching with the education committee, publishing or performing research with the professional development committee, and/or participating in practice improvements are all possibilities. The leadership team and coworkers will encourage you to participate in education, research, quality and high-level patient care. Ideal candidates would have a continuous desire to learn and develop as a cardiovascular surgery advanced practice provider.
