The largest of Duke Health's four hospitals with 1062 patient beds, it features comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, an endo-surgery center, and more.    Job Location Duke University Hospital Outpatient Wound Clinic   Job Summary The Wound Management APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides leadership and direct patient care services for patients with a variety of wounds including patients on the plastic surgery patients as deemed appropriate.  The wound care APP provides direct patient care, performs physical exams, provides clinical expertise, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. In addition the APP performs procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies, serves as a professional consultant, coordinates care among the interdisciplinary teams, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. The Wound Care APP works collaboratively with a variety of health care providers and teams in planning and the coordination of patient care. The Wound Care NP/PA contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.

Requirements

  • PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant program, Masters or Doctoral Degree preferred.
  • NP: Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner program for adult care.
  • PA: PA-C
  • NP: AGPCNP or AGACNP or ACNP or AGNP or FNP with WOC certification preferred
  • PA: Current unrestricted medical license issued by the NCMB with approval to practice as PA
  • NP: Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with approval to practice as an NP.
  • Both: Federal and State DEA with unrestricted prescriptive authority
  • PA: Minimum 1- year experience as a Physician Assistant preferred, but not required. Wound care experience is strongly preferred.
  • NP: Minimum 1-year experience as an NP or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Wound care experience is strongly preferred.
  • Able to clearly articulate scope of practice and practices within those guidelines as an NP/PA in the state of North Carolina and within the Duke University Health System (DUHS)
  • Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively to solve complex problems
  • Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
  • Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up
  • Able to use fine motor skills
  • Able to record activities, document assessments, and interventions; prepare reports and presentations.
  • Able to use computer and learn new software programs
  • Able to provide leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals
  • Able to navigate the Hospital and DUHS to provide clinical expertise to specific patient populations
  • Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds
  • Able to remain focused and organized
  • Able to work collaboratively with all levels of personnel

Nice To Haves

  • PA: Wound care experience is strongly preferred.
  • NP: Wound care experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical exams

  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations
  • Work in wound clinic, performing related tasks
  • Prescribe appropriate interventions and medications and provide direct patient care services.
  • Provide leadership in the care of patients seen within the Wound Clinic
  • Educate nurses to ensure knowledge and competency in basic wound and lower extremity management; and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care.
  • Collaborate with a supervising physician
