About The Position

Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant - Lung Transplant is responsible for providing outpatient care to lung transplant recipients. Care of this population includes management of immunosuppression care of sensitized patients undergoing desensitization for transplantation and treatment for rejection. You will interact with many disciplinary teams in the care of transplant patients including surgery teams, cardiology, pulmonary, and critical care. Conduct comprehensive health history and physical assessment of patients. Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice. Participate in daily rounding and collaborate with the attending or consulting team in order to adjust plans of care. The Lung Transplant APP provides outpatient clinical care management of 75-100 of complex lung transplant recipients. Lung Transplant Program Shifts: Day Shift Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 4:30pm. No Weekends. No evening shifts. Rotational on-call requirement ~ every 6 weeks.

Requirements

  • Completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistance Program
  • Licensed by the MD Board of Physicians and Board certified or ( certification eligible for new Graduate PA ) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • BLS Health Care Provider CPR certification required: AHA or Red Cross accepted
  • Active Maryland CDS and Federal DEA or ability to apply upon hire
  • 2 years PA work experience required
  • Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership Systems (PECOS) enrollment required upon hire
  • You must be fully credentialled by The Johns Hopkins Hospital medical board with staff privileges to start working.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough pre-transplant evaluations and assessments of potential transplant candidates.
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of suitable organ transplant recipients.
  • Manage the Outpatient care of transplant patients from evaluation to long-term follow-up.
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
  • Provide patient education on transplant procedures, medications, and discharge care.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives related to transplant services.
