JOB SUMMARY Join our team and help launch the first state psychiatric hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth, where innovative caregivers will make a lasting impact on behavioral health in Texas. The Texas Behavioral Health Center (TBHC) is a newly completed state-funded psychiatric hospital opening in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District that is owned by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center. When fully operational, the 505,000-square-foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents. As DFW’s first state-funded behavioral health hospital, it is designed to deliver state-of-the-art, patient-centered care in a modern and healing environment. The center provides comprehensive behavioral health treatment and features private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery. The hospital will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines. Texas Behavioral Health Center (TBHC) is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide onsite primary care services for patients admitted to our new behavioral health facility. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be responsible for addressing patients’ primary care needs, managing chronic conditions, conducting assessments, and coordinating care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary behavioral health team. This position plays a key role in ensuring continuity of care during a critical period of stabilization and recovery. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8: 00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. no holidays. Ideal Candidate: Strong primary care background as an APP. Experience in forensic, correctional, behavioral health, or institutional settings preferred. Comfortable working with complex and underserved patient populations.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
  • Graduate of a Master’s degree or higher. Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
