About The Position

The OR Nurse Manager works with the Surgical Services leadership team and hospital nursing supervisor to coordinate departmental activities over a 24-hour period and reports to the Director of Surgical Services. They are responsible and accountable for coordinating and supervising the intraoperative nursing care provided to patients having operative or other invasive procedures. The role requires a working knowledge of the medical/legal and accreditation aspects of nursing and includes direct supervision of RNs, LPN, Scrub Technologists, Perioperative Aides, CNAs, and unit clerks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Oregon.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, & TNCC.
  • Minimum of 5 years of operating room or ambulatory surgery center experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Electronic Health Record experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing.
  • CNOR.
  • Previous Manager experience.
  • Microsoft Knowledge (Word, Excel, Teams).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the OR areas both operationally and fiscally.
  • Assist in developing the operational and capital budget.
  • Verify that OR personnel provide safe patient care in the area managed.
  • Incorporate and assist with OR personnel with assimilating evidence-based practices into patient care.
  • Assist OR personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement.
  • Verify that educational resources are available for team education and hold personnel accountable for attendance and completion.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and manage changes within the OR.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, consultation, negotiation, and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders.
  • Collect and analyze data related to performance improvement projects that apply to the area managed.
  • Use effective conflict resolution techniques.
  • Facilitate or serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning OR patient care.
  • Evaluate OR personnel performance.
  • Interview for OR personnel selection.
  • Verify that necessary OR personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
  • Verify OR personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to surgical team.
  • Exhibit professional, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Use effective project management principles.
  • Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Maintain nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Ensure operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
