About The Position

Responsible for providing clinical leadership, utilizing effective problem-solving strategies, and applying evidence-based practice to improve patient care. The role oversees and optimizes the flow of the department, ensuring exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment. This position involves managing staff from hiring to employment separation, supervising through orientation, training, and annual reviews, and ensuring quality of nursing care. The manager fosters staff empowerment, open communication, and leads and guides staff to build an engaged team, while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and promoting a team concept hospital-wide. Key responsibilities include ensuring safety and quality indicators are met, monitoring and investigating discrepancies, reviewing incident reports, and managing daily operations and staffing.

Requirements

  • BSN degree
  • RN licensure in the State of Florida and in good standing throughout employment
  • A minimum of 2 years of adult/pediatric RN experience in an acute healthcare environment
  • Previous experience as a nursing unit Charge Nurse or Leadership
  • PALS within 1 year of hire and in good standing throughout employment
  • CPR: Healthcare Provider - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Nice To Haves

  • ICU and/or surgical experience
  • National Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) within 5 years of hire
  • Proficient with computers, EMR, and Microsoft Office experience
  • Strong customer service, problem solving, critical thinking, time management, and conflict resolution skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensure achievement of target quality indicators for CEI (falls, bundles, central line infusion, unplanned extubations)
  • Proactively monitor and implement systems to achieve and surpass CEI/goals
  • Identify and manage lean processes in department overseen by director
  • Review documentation for code blues to ensure specific hospital policy and standards are adhered to within 24 hours of event
  • Monitor and investigate medication discrepancies to ensure medication administration practices are being followed per the medication administration processes
  • Review incident reports, implement a plan of action and monitor results to drive efficiencies in clinical and operational excellence
  • Oversee and supervise daily operations and staffing
  • Edit and react to unplanned events and challenges while assuring quality service and patient directed care
  • Review schedules, use flex options, and proactively align the schedule with volume/census fluctuation, collaborates with nursing and monitors on an ongoing basis
  • Conduct patient rounding to ensure patient and family satisfaction and maintain SEI targets level
  • Proactively take action to correct any inefficiencies in processes and problem solve with key findings
  • Ensure patient and family satisfaction by assuring involvement in problems solving with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Ensure department meets/exceeds and sustains Service & Clinical Index scores and metrics
  • Conduct huddles and communicate Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers (HCAHPS) results
  • Provide timely mentoring and coaching to clinical staff and care assistants to ensure quality of nursing care
  • Foster staff empowerment, open communication, and lead & guide staff to build an engaged team
  • Work collaboratively with all levels of the hospital interdisciplinary team with (Governance & Magnet) and promote the team concept within the department and hospital wide
  • Directly manage staff from hiring to employment separation while supervising staff through orientation, training, and annual reviews within established guidelines and scope
  • Manage procedures including payroll, time/attendance, and progressive disciplinary action in a timely and accurate manner
  • Monitor and evaluate staff competencies, regulatory requirements, credentials, and accuracy/completeness of paperwork
  • Utilize performance improvement data to plan for staff development and continuing education
  • Promote and practice cost containment
