About The Position

We are in search of a Registered Nurse for the PICU at Main Campus for NIGHTSHIFT. Someone who excels in fast-paced learning with dynamic flexibility in a critical care setting. This position encompasses direct nursing care to critically ill patients, while ensuring safety and comfort, within our family centered care model. Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes: 9 LT (Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU), 10 LT (MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients), 11 LT (MICU with a mix of medical-surgical patients), and 12 LT (Transitional ICU for chronic, technology dependent patients). As a PICU nurse, you will work with patients in each cohort. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or an associate’s degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required +signed agreement
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS American Heart Association certification are required
  • 9 months of professional nursing experience
  • The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate good time and resource management skills
  • Demonstrate flexibility
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
  • Operate unit specific equipment
  • Able to work nights
  • Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age – appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.
  • Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problem, and detects changes in patient status
  • Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient’s condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record
  • Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate
  • Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching.
  • Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members.
  • Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
  • Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
