About The Position

The Weston Hospital Operating Room is a high-acuity surgical environment consisting of 18 operating suites, with 15 rooms located on the second floor and 3 rooms on the first floor. The department supports a wide range of complex surgical specialties, including cardiac, abdominal, kidney and liver transplant, genitourinary (GU), and gynecologic (GYN) procedures. The OR is also equipped with three surgical robots, allowing teams to perform advanced, minimally invasive procedures with precision and efficiency. As the Nurse Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the practice and delivery of patient care. You will provide leadership and direction to the OR nursing team, ensuring that safe, efficient, and high-quality care is delivered to every patient. Your responsibilities will include overseeing day-to-day operations, coordinating staff assignments, and promoting collaboration among surgical teams, anesthesia providers, and support departments. In this role, you will also supervise all aspects of personnel management and professional development for the OR nursing staff. This includes hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating performance to foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning. Additionally, you will ensure that all activities within the Operating Room comply with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and evidence-based practices. Caregivers in this position work a variety of start times to meet the needs of the Operating Room schedule. Shifts may begin at 6:45 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., or 12:00 p.m., depending on surgical case assignments and department requirements. This flexibility ensures continuous, high-quality patient care and optimal coverage across all surgical specialties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross upon hire or within first year of employment
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within first year of employment
  • Three years of recent clinical nursing experience including at least one year of healthcare management experience
  • High degree of clinical expertise in the specialty area
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and group process skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operation and practice of professional nursing and delivery of nursing care on an assigned unit.
  • Establish clinical direction of nursing care, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes and patient care standards.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care.
  • Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Supervise caregivers and promote development.
  • Maintain adherence to JCAHO and other regulatory standards.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, approve purchases and establish/revise inventory quotes.
  • Analyze personnel structure and determine staffing needs.
  • Evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes and develop strategic plans.
  • Participate in clinical nursing research and support foundation research activities.
