About The Position

Under the general supervision of the unit's Director the Nurse Manager of NICU is responsible for the efficient, effective running of the assigned units. This includes, but is not limited to management of the budget, provision of patient care services, performance improvement, compliance with regulatory standards, and business development. In collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in department.

Requirements

  • BSN required.
  • RN license eligible to practice in the State of Texas required.
  • BLS and NRP required from an HCA approved vendor.
  • STABLE within 6 months of hire is required.
  • Specialty Certification is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting to include experience in Nursery/NICU specialty.

  • Professional nursing organization membership encouraged.
  • Leadership and management experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively allocate financial, physical and human resources to ensure that operations are effective and efficient.
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in nursing practice and its clinical application to the patient population served in the unit, including the operation of equipment, and policy and procedures used in the delivery of patient care in the unit.
  • Maintain communication with other members of the management team regarding potential/actual problems or concerns, and with Medical Staff issues.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining communication channels with Medical Staff and other departments in the Hospital.
  • Operate across organizational boundaries and recognize implications of actions and plans.
  • Ensure Department/Unit provides positive customer service.
  • Identify critical changes required to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Establish clear Operational Unit goals and hold staff accountable for their responsibilities and performance.
  • Comply with professional regulations.
  • Make timely, effective decisions.
  • Delegate responsibility effectively.
  • Motivate staff to be effective team members.
  • Foster development of Department/Unit employees to enhance their ability to contribute to meet business goals.

  • Develop effective quality processes to improve quality of the department and hospital.
  • Facilitate staff education regarding current quality initiatives.
  • Communicate directly with the Director/Manager on unit and staff performance issues needing attention.
  • Maintain effective utilization and maintenance of manpower, equipment, and supplies.
  • Participate in cost containment programs as applicable to services provided.
  • Actively participate in appropriate Department and Hospital committees and ensure that unit personnel are involved in this process as appropriate.
  • Maintain own professional growth through appropriate organizations, workshops, seminars, and other educational endeavors.
  • Maintain awareness of current developments and trends in nursing practice.
  • May act as Neonatal Program Manager (NPM).
  • Be responsible for implantation and maintenance of Hospital Level of Care Designations for Neonatal Care as per Texas state law.
  • Be responsible to monitor the provision of neonatal patient care services from admission, stabilization, operative intervention(s) if applicable, through discharge, inclusive of the QAPI Program.
  • Collaborate with the Neonatal Medical Director in areas to include, but not limited to: developing and/or revising policies, procedures and guidelines, assuring staff competency, education, and training, the QAPI program; and regularly participates in the Neonatal Operations and Quality meetings.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other NPM's of designated facilities within the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council's Perinatal Committee.
