About The Position

Position Summary Performs general patient care such as, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation in a basic role with the guidanceand mentoring of the Registered Nurse.

Requirements

  • Nursing student currently enrolled in a nursing program at a college or university.
  • Successful completion of fundamentals nursing course.
  • Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
  • None

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
  • Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)..
  • Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned.
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
  • Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
  • Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
  • Transports and assists patientsthrough the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Completes all mandatory training.
  • Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.
  • Interpretsthe appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
  • Provides the care needed as described in Orlando Health’s policies and procedures.
  • Consistently uses time and resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
