About The Position

As a Nurse Extern at Main Line Health, you will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic clinical environment, supporting our nursing staff and providing exceptional care to patients. This position is designed for nursing students who are looking to enhance their clinical skills and gain valuable experience in preparation for a full-time nursing career. As a Nurse Extern, you will provide direct care to patient in a nursing support position. Location: By submitting your application to this posting, you will be considered for placement at one of our award-winning hospitals: Bryn Mawr Hospital Lankenau Medical Center Paoli Hospital, Malvern PA Riddle Hospital, Media PA Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital, Malvern PA Candidates may also apply to be considered for our System Travel Agility Team (Float Pool). STAT Nurse Externs have the ability to pick up shifts at any one of our 4 acute care hospitals. While completing your application, you will be asked to list your preferred hospital placement location(s). If your application is chosen for consideration, a Talent Acquisition team member will connect with you about available units. Schedule: The Nurse Extern Program is a year-round position (not a summer only role). The hours requirement for Nurse Externs is a minimum of 24 hours per week during the summer after training is completed (June/July/August) and a minimum of 16 hours per month during the fall and spring semesters (September to May). Shifts available: Nurse Externs must have the ability to work day, evenings, and night shift, as well as weekend (Saturday and Sunday) shifts. Most shifts are 12 hours. Hourly Rate: $18.00 per hour. Nurse Externs who work evening and night shifts are eligible to receive a shift differential. Nurse Externs are merit eligible. Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program (Diploma, ASN, or BSN).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and availability to work year-round.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing compassionate patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic nursing support duties such as taking vital signs, AM/PM care, EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, finger sticks, phlebotomy and more.
  • Document patient information accurately and timely in electronic health records (EPIC).
  • Support patient mobility, comfort, and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Participate in patient care planning and review sessions.
  • Adhere to all hospital protocols and infection control practices.
