About The Position

The Nurse Extern, under the direction of a licensed professional nurse, performs care appropriate to the patient population served and meets daily routine patient care needs. The nurse extern may also assist nursing staff by transporting patients, running errands, and transporting equipment to and from units as requested. The 2026 Externship provides an exciting opportunity to explore our Specialty Pathways, offering immersive, hands-on exposure to practice areas aligned with your career goals. Each pathway features two rotations across different locations, delivering broad experience and in-depth, specialty-focused learning. Specialty Pathways Offered : Intermediate Care Critical Care Emergency Care Women’s & Children’s Behavioral Health Outpatient Services Surgical Services

Requirements

• Required Education: High School Diploma / GED.
• Required Certifications and Licensures: Hold a current, active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course completion card.

Responsibilities

• Must be a rising senior nursing student in a BSN program or a rising junior in ADN program at the start of the extern program (Must be graduating between December 2026 and August 2027).
• Nurse Externs will need to have successfully completed Fundamentals of Nursing class during their sophomore year .
• Nurse Externs must be able to start the program in a PRN status on June 1st, 2026
• Nurse Externs will be required to complete General and Nursing Orientation during the first week of employment.
• Nurse Externs will work with their assigned nurse preceptor at a Centra facility and will follow the preceptor’s schedule working 32-40 hours per week.
