Must be enrolled in BCTC (Leestown Campus), EKU or Morehead General Information: The Nurse Extern II program is a collaboration between Baptist Health Lexington (BHLex) and eligible accredited nursing programs. The school will have oversight of the practicum hours set up at the beginning of the semester and BHLex will have oversight of the NE II program. The program offers additional clinical practice experience to qualified nursing students to enhance their preparation as future licensed nurses. The goal is to have a continuity of unit and preceptor for the entire time at BHLex. It is anticipated that, upon successful completion of the Nurse Extern II Program, participating students will transition into a full-time staff nursing position after graduating and obtaining a provisional nursing license. Eligible students are second semester seniors electing to do their 120-hour/168-hour practicum at BHLex. Following completion of the 120-hour/168-hour practicum, students will continue working with a preceptor for approximately two 12-hour shifts per week for a total of 120/168 hours through the remainder of the semester. Education and Experience: The Nurse Extern II must be actively enrolled in a board-approved pre-licensure nursing program and provide documented proof of active enrollment (transcript). Candidates must have successfully completed clinical coursework to reach senior-level standing as determined by an accredited school of nursing.
