About The Position

Nurse Educators provide educational experiences that facilitate the promotion of competent nursing practice and quality patient care. They facilitate the orientation for new nursing employees and assist in their assimilation into a new role. Nurse Educators support nursing staff members in their efforts in knowledge and skill acquisition and professional development. Primary Department, Division, or Unit: Operating Room, UHS Wilson Medical Center Primary Work Shift: Day Rotational Regular Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Compensation Range: $40.70 - $61.05 per hour, depending on experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or related field.
  • Three (3) years Nursing Practice experience in a clinical setting.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse License
  • CPR within 3 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Professional nursing certification in Professional Development
  • Professional certification in another nursing area

Responsibilities

  • Assesses general learning needs for nursing personnel related to new employee orientation, regulatory requirements, clinical skill, technical skill, equipment, and professional development.
  • Identifies the general purpose and educational objectives for each learning activity.
  • Identifies and collaborates with content experts to develop activities to facilitate learners’ achievement of the educational objectives.
  • Designs, coordinates, and provides education to meet identified learning needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of all educational activities including content, faculty, learner participation and relevant outcomes.
  • Revises ongoing education plans as warranted by evaluation or changes in practice, regulation and/or technology.
  • Leads or participates in programs and/or projects assigned to the Nursing Education and Professional Practice Department (i.e., Clinical Ladder Program, NYS Department of Health Plan of Correction, CPR Instructor and Basic Education, Affiliating Schools of Nursing, Clinical Systems projects, Graduate Nurse Mentoring, etc.).
  • Assures the collection and maintenance of relevant records for educational activities and other assigned duties.
  • Serves on councils and/or committees to develop policy and implement change as well as improve nursing practice.
  • Advises nursing personnel as an education consultant when requested.
  • Participates in nursing research projects when requested.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.
