About The Position

The primary role of this position is to provide comprehensive training and operational support to nursing and health services staff within the South Central Region. Responsibilities include conducting new staff orientation, delivering continuing education, facilitating BLS CPR certification, and ensuring compliance with Department of Adult Correction policies. The Nurse Educator develops and evaluates educational programs and competencies, supports professional development, and serves as a mentor and resource for facility staff. This role also involves active participation in the Health Services Education and APU committees, with a focus on evidence-based practice and adherence to NCNA/ANCC guidelines for continuing education.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of experience in the area of specialization.

  • Preference given to candidates that have a BSN and 5 years of related experience due to New Nurse Orientation and CNE's per NC Board of Nursing
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge in medical, surgical, and mental health nursing practices, including physical assessments, clinical judgment, and medication management.
  • Designs and delivers comprehensive training programs using adult learning principles, including orientation, skills check-offs, and competency development.
  • Collaborates effectively with facility leadership, healthcare professionals, and external partners to coordinate educational initiatives and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Communicates complex healthcare information clearly and professionally through verbal presentations, written materials, and audiovisual tools.
  • Maintains flexibility and independence in managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and adapting to evolving healthcare needs within the prison system.
