About The Position

Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class assists in providing for the management of patient care by means of clinical expertise gained in a specialized aspect of nursing care for the Neonatal ICU patients and process.The Neonatal ICU Educator is the clinical expert in evidence-based nursing practice within a specialty area. This Nursing Educator functions both autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers to manage, support, and coordinate the care of acute and/or critically ill patients. Supervision may be exercised over a small support staff.This position is responsible and accountable for the orientation of new staff to the unit and the development of current staff, teaching didactic classes, managing the CETT Drills (Critical Event Team Training), collaboration with other educators in the hospital, reviewing and maintaining unit-based policies, providing leadership in advancing the practice of nursing to achieve quality and cost-effective patient outcomes as well as providingleadership of multidisciplinary groups in designing and implementing innovative alternative solutions that address system problems and/or patient care issues. Providing clinical teaching and supervision and directing patient assignments for new and experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid license and current registration, issued by the State of New York, to practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Three years of professional nursing experience where the primary function of the position was nursing in a hospital or health care agency, two years of which must have been in the area of specialization
