The Division of Neonatology at Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC) is seeking a general pediatrician to join its faculty and collaborate with the neonatology team to provide care to newborn infants. This position includes working as a newborn hospitalist, taking care of newborns outside of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) settings. The position currently oversees the clinical services of advance practice nurses for CMKC in well newborn nurseries at Advent Health Shawnee Mission in Shawnee Mission, KS, Advent Health South Overland Park in Overland Park, KS and Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO. The position also includes clinical service on the well newborn service at University Health Truman Medical Center (UH-TMC). UH-TMC serves as the primary teaching hospital for the University of Missouri Kansas City and the position involves academic teaching responsibilities for pediatric clerkship students, pediatric and internal medicine/pediatric residents as well as hospital medicine fellows. Inpatient clinical duties include well newborn care, completion of circumcisions, care of congenital anomalies and medical conditions not requiring intensive care services. The position would share coverage at the community hospitals with other physicians who serve within the Division of Neonatology. The newborn hospitalists work closely with the NICU team to provide a continuum of neonatal care. Delivery attendance is covered by the NICU and not required for this position. Similarly, night-time coverage is provided by the NICU. A typical expectation of clinical service time would include 26 weeks of clinical teaching/academic service yearly, divided amongst the hospitals. Administrative time is flexible and generally available during community hospital service time. Weekend responsibilities when not on UH-TMC service would be shared with the APRN group at the other community hospitals. Successful candidates will possess strong clinical and interpersonal skills, be board-eligible/board-certified in general pediatrics, and qualify for the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Strong interest in education of trainees is necessary. Additional interest in population health, breastfeeding and care of at-risk families is preferred. In addition to clinical excellence, preferred candidates should have an interest in and evidence of scholarly pursuits, including education and quality improvement initiatives. The Neonatology Division consists of 38 neonatologists, plus 6 general pediatricians, with a wide spectrum of interests, providing opportunity for candidates to find collaboration and support for an individualized professional career pathway. The successful applicant must share our unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, collegiality, antiracism, and respect for inclusion of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
