It includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 102-bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs exams at a technical level that does not require direct supervision over technical detail. Conducts a wide variety of examinations. Assists with interventional procedures. Uses independent judgment, ingenuity and acquired knowledge to obtain quality diagnostic images. Has a constant awareness of infection control standards, the importance of sterility and an acute awareness of patient care protocols. Responsibilities of the Technologist include an empathetic and instructional approach to patient care; the preparation, calibration, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals (under the direct supervision of an authorized user), the performance of quality control procedures and the operation of imaging, laboratory and computer instrumentation.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Verification of successful graduation from a formal educational program in Nuclear Medicine Technology accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education Programs in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Must be certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board and/or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist upon hire.
  • Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire and maintain clinical competency during employment with Manchester Memorial Hospital in this role.
  • Must have a complete working knowledge in the principals of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique and radiation protection as it relates to Nuclear Medicine practice.
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologists must demonstrate knowledge/experience handling and administration of radioactive materials.
  • Must meet the Manchester Memorial Hospital age specific knowledge/skill requirement and annually complete Manchester Memorial Hospital's mandatory education program.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read and write using the English language.
  • Intermediate level of computer skills.

  • Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish are desirable, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assures that patient’s clinical data coincides with and matches the type of exam that is being ordered.
  • Consistently presents nuclear medicine scans of the highest quality as identified by feedback from the radiologist and department supervisor.
  • Demonstrates competency and proficiency in all aspects of nuclear computer applications with minimal errors.
  • Performs therapy procedures in accordance to protocol and NRC regulations.
  • Accurately completes computer (Meditech) patient procedure documentation
  • Independently responds on a call basis to perform procedures.
  • Receives and surveys radioactive shipments.
  • Determines consistently when there is a need to order and when to cancel doses from Nuclear pharmacy when needed.
  • Prepares, calculates, and administers proper radiopharmaceutical via no errors.
  • Stores and disposes of radioactive material in accordance with hospital policies and NRC regulations.
  • Accurately performs and documents storage and disposal of radioactive material in accordance with hospital policy and NRC regulations.
  • Understands and performs quality control on all required instrumentation according to established guidelines.
  • Practices safe handling of radioactive material to minimize exposure to self, co-workers and patient at all times as observed by supervisor and evidenced by exposure records.
  • Teaches new employees and students how to produce quality nuclear medicine exams and operate all related programs and equipment related to achieving this goal.
  • Participates in the students’ clinical evaluation process.
  • Works cooperatively and exhibits Core Values at all times to accomplish all tasks as a member of the Medical Imaging Team.
  • Independently runs one’s own schedule and properly documents patient flow while remaining sensitive to patients care and other co-workers needs and desires.
