The Department of Writing Arts at Rowan University is seeking to hire a Teaching Professor with an appointment to begin September 1, 2026. Candidates will be considered as the Assistant and Associate Teaching Professor levels. Teaching assignments will primarily be in the areas of technical writing, scientific writing, and Engineering-cohorted sections of first-year writing. Additional course assignments are possible, determined by departmental need and based on the faculty member's experience and expertise. In service to the department, faculty in this position are expected to attend departmental, college, and university events and to serve on committees such as curriculum development, assessment, and outreach. Faculty may also pursue other service responsibilities as sought or assigned. In addition, faculty are expected to engage in professional development. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, community-centered department of colleagues that takes equal pride in teaching, scholarship, service, and advocacy. The ideal candidate will be ready to serve a diverse student body and practice engaging and culturally responsive pedagogies, and also be eager to teach a variety of courses and cohorts of students across our offerings in the First-Year Writing Program, the undergraduate major in Writing Arts, the interdisciplinary Health and Science Communication Program, and potentially our graduate MA in Writing Program. We especially value inclusive pedagogies that provide access for all students, with thoughtful attention to those who may need additional support. Located in the Ric Edelman College of Communication, Humanities, and Social Sciences, we are one of the few standalone writing departments in the nation. More information can be found on the Department of Writing Arts’ website [https://www.rowan.edu/ric-edelman-college/departments/writing-arts/]. Teaching Professors are expected to hold a terminal degree (or its professional equivalent) in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or a closely related field. The teaching positions are 10-month, full-time, non-tenure track appointments. Successful candidates will teach 24 credits over two semesters, with an option to teach overload and summer classes for additional compensation. Teaching Professor positions are renewable based on performance reviews and programmatic needs.
