Caregivers in this position will support the Cole Eye departments at Hillcrest and Beachwood. There is always something new to learn as the field of ophthalmology continues to grow and advance. Ophthalmic Assistants provide vision care under the supervision of a licensed ophthalmologist and assist with taking patient histories, performing diagnostic tests and procedures, patient scheduling, and exam room preparation. A caregiver in this position works days between 8:00am and 5:00am.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role OR additional formal education or training in ophthalmology
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Minimum of one year experience in an ophthalmic setting providing direct patient care (Additional formal education or training in ophthalmology may substitute for some or all the stated experience)
  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and prepare patients for examination or treatment.
  • Perform initial patient examinations, ophthalmic testing procedures and routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and procedures.
  • Document patient information in their medical record.
  • Perform clerical, stocking, maintenance and related duties.
