About The Position
LINK nky is seeking Contributors to provide daily news and in-depth, solutions-focused coverage of Northern Kentucky. This role involves a contract, part-time engagement focused on specific stories or beats, with an urgent need for reporters to cover government meetings such as city councils, county commissions, school boards, and planning committees. This work is crucial for holding local power accountable and offers a direct path to joining LINK. The ideal candidate finds this type of coverage genuinely interesting or is eager to learn. As part of a small team, every contributor is a critical part of the organization, requiring quick work, flexibility, and an understanding that the collective mission is paramount.
Requirements
- Experience or education as a news reporter
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Basic multimedia knowledge (being able to take photos and video with your phone)
- Comfortable in government, political, and community settings
Nice To Haves
- Writing/communications experience (for candidates newer to the field)
Responsibilities
- Cover NKY government meetings and produce timely, accurate reports from those proceedings
- Manage assigned stories and pitch additional coverage in your areas of interest
- Take photos and potentially video at meetings
- Maintain notes and audio recordings from stories and sources for review when necessary
- Collaborate closely with our Community Editor and Executive Editor
