NextUp programs provide a comprehensive support system tailored to the unique needs of students who have experienced foster care. Throughout the semester, students meet regularly with staff and academic counselors to receive individualized services, including college transition planning, financial aid assistance, and guidance on course selection and post-college and career goals. The NextUp/EOPS Counselor will be dedicated to the enhancement of cultural and educational experiences of, and are committed to the academic success, personal growth, and self-actualization of students who have experienced foster care and other students within EOPS at Cuyamaca College. The NextUp/EOPS Counselor serves as a regular member of the Counseling Division faculty. This entails providing counseling services related to transfer, occupational programs, and career and academic skills development from a student centered and culturally sustaining lens. Under the Associate Dean of Student Services and Special Programs, regular/contract counselors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. The NextUp/EOPS Counselor will serve students within the EOPS and NextUp programs, with a primary focus on students who have experienced foster care, and is expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.
