Job Summary/Description: KGNS is looking for an Evening News Anchor for our Telenoticias Spanish Newscast to round out our award-winning team of on-air journalists. This person will be a leader in the newsroom, and the ideal candidate is a self-starter who will help contribute to our content on all platforms, including on-air, digital, social, and OTT. This is a high-profile role at a dominant, legacy news station. The position requires poise, journalistic integrity, and the ability to hold and build an audience both on-air and digital. KGNS+, the dominant station in Laredo, TX, is searching for a news anchor. Our evening anchors contribute daily to elevating our team and newscasts and are ambassadors of the station, championing our community initiatives. This is a high-profile position demanding leadership and initiative. The person we hire must make a daily and noticeable impact on our product. In addition to anchoring duties on evening news, this position will include delivering news content for digital, streaming, and social media platforms. We’re looking for a creative, experienced storyteller to find and share high-quality reports.

Requirements

  • 1 year of professional newsroom and on-air experience preferred
  • Anchoring, producing, and reporting experience
  • An engaging and comfortable on-air personality
  • Ability to enterprise and produce compelling content from start to finish
  • Ability to use exceptional news judgment to prioritize tasks and assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with newsroom managers, producers, and co-workers
  • Must be an excellent writer
  • Knowledge of journalism ethics and legal issues; a College Degree is required
  • Ability to meet daily news deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and possess the ability to multitask and work under pressure

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, Bitcentral Oasis, or Arc CMS is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Anchor our market-leading Monday-Friday evening newscasts
  • Exercise a strong news judgment, research complicated stories, and determine the content and quality of newscasts
  • Act as a supervising producer during the late newscasts
  • Read/copy edit news scripts before each show
  • Be a digital-first journalist, posting compelling content to social media and the station's digital platforms
  • Be involved in the community, emceeing events, and making public appearances as requested by the station
  • Be ready to report/field anchor when major breaking news happens
  • Report and produce regular franchise stories
