Together, let's advance the world of minimally invasive care.Primary Function of PositionWorking within the Cardiac Instruments and Accessories team, develop next generation devices through a mix of direct design work, experimental inquiry, project leadership, and design control practices to drive progress on features and tradeoff judgments. The ideal candidate (i) possesses the grit and interest in making progress amidst diverse technical perspectives and (ii) is capable of endurance and flexibility -able to shift between leader, partner, or supporter, between hustle vs. deliberation, between dialogue vs. hands-on lab work, based on context.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years' experience supporting a mechanical engineering group in a product development organization
  • Associate of Science degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Prior experience working in an FDA/ISO regulated environment
  • Hands-on experience building mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, or equipment, with some electrical or pneumatic assembly using hand tools
  • Ability to perform prototype testing per written protocol or verbal instruction and document results
  • Ability to fabricate and assemble electromechanical prototypes using machine and hand tools, including lathe, mill, drill press, Dremel tool, rapid prototyping equipment, bonding equipment, soldering station, laser welding equipment, etc.
  • Ability to inspect components using metrology equipment (including calipers, micrometers, vision systems, CMM)
  • Manual dexterity to assemble very small components, with microscope or similar magnification
  • Ability to move/manipulate large, heavy wheeled equipment, and lift equipment up to 30 lbs
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office required, Solidworks experience desired
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with development teams, including design and manufacturing engineers, buyers, suppliers, project managers, and other technicians

Responsibilities

  • Develop and down select novel design concepts that meet relevant clinical (e.g. performance, safety) and business (e.g. cost, scalability) needs
  • Build and test prototypes to discover failure modes for proposed design concepts.
  • Develop robust and creative test methods to facilitate rigorous understanding of the design - not just how a design behaves, but why.
  • Collaborate with clinical, usability, design, and other interfacing teams to develop, negotiate, decompose, and substantiate device and device interaction requirements.
  • Collaborate with process and supplier engineering to drive design manufacturability.
  • Optimize the design based on rigorous understanding of design behavior, needs, tradeoffs
  • Investigate issues using robust and efficient experimental approaches, employing statistical tools where appropriate.
  • May mentor or oversee the work of junior staff or technicians
