About The Position

TWB Valley City is seeking a New Product Development Engineering Intern this summer session! Summer internships are expected to take place between May 11 and August 14, 2026. TWB Company is North America’s market leader for tailor welded products with locations in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ontario, and Mexico. Formed in 1992, TWB is a joint venture of Worthington Steel and BAO Steel. The company developed the tailor welded blank market in North America and is the leading manufacturer of tailor welded products supporting JIT production and services to the automotive industry. The company’s technologies are helping automotive companies produce stronger, lighter vehicles. Selected interns are assigned based on their field of study and interests within our company. These interns gain hands-on experience by completing challenging projects that apply their field of study to real world applications in manufacturing. The intern will focus on optimizing of wire feed parameters on hot formed ablated welds, debugging and testing new wire feed system, and investigating weld gap on mechanical properties. This project will include designing an experiment based on provided problem statement, executing welding trials, and analyzing the results. Skills developed: deeper knowledge of press hardening steel, laboratory management, data acquisition, detailed observation, communication, problem solving, strategic planning, presenting, documenting, executing, evaluating

Requirements

  • Major in Material Science, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering in an accredited program or an alternate degree with relevant experience
  • Completion of Sophomore Year by summer of 2026
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with welding
  • General engineering skills and knowledge of welding processes
  • Ability to set up and optimize weld parameters
  • Intermediate to advanced mechanical design skills
  • Experience in experiment design
  • Working knowledge of statistics
  • Proficient in using computers, learning new systems, and critical thinking
  • Active listener who can receive and follow directions
  • Takes initiative and is driven to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Punctuality and commitment to doing the job right
  • Interest in Manufacturing
  • All positions at TWB require a pre-employment drug screen, and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Laser Welding experience
  • Previous internship in manufacturing environment
  • Willingness to travel to the Worthington Corporate Materials Lab (CML) in Columbus, Ohio and TWB Monroe, MI
