About The Position

A Chautauqua Theater Company New Play Workshop Director shall supervise and conduct rehearsals and attend and supervise all presentations of the play. Director shall also attend meetings, consult with the CTC’s Producing Artistic Director, and make suggestions with regard to casting and other production matters. The Chautauqua Theater Company summer season will consist of fully produced productions, as well as several new play workshops/readings. Director's total compensation for the production shall be $1,900, paid out on the following schedule: One-third (1/3rd) upon the signing of the Contract by the Director; One-third (1/3rd) upon first day of rehearsal. One-third (1/3rd) upon first day of the last week of rehearsal. ADDITIONAL TERMS. Theater shall provide round-trip economy air transportation or mileage reimbursement ($.61/mi) to/from Chautauqua Institution from New York, NY (or equivalent) booked at least 3 weeks prior to travel. Private accommodations and traditional gate pass for duration of Director’s time at Chautauqua. Chautauqua Institution’s car service to/from Buffalo airport. Please refer to the rider that is to be attached to the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers Tier Contract Agreement for additional terms. About Your Work Day Supervise and conduct rehearsals for the play. Attend and supervise all workshop presentations of the play. Attend meetings. Consult with Chautauqua Theater Company's Producing Artistic Director. Provide input on casting and other production matters. About the Referral Program Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August. About Your Schedule Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position: Will be scheduled to work an average of 48-hours/week, in compliance with rehearsal hours as outlined in the Actors’ Equity URTA - Tier 3 CBA. Scheduled hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. About Living on the Grounds Chautauqua Institution may provide limited housing options on our grounds or assist you with locating nearby housing arrangements for select opportunities based on business needs. Housing is not an option for many positions and may be of a cost to you. Candidates should assume there are no employer-provided or employer-assisted housing options available for this position unless it is otherwise stated. This position offers employer-provided housing and parking. Housing includes a private bedroom and shared living space. Employee must provide their own transportation to and from their housing and workplace. Residency starts in mid-July and ends early August.
