Cleveland Clinic’s M50 Pediatric Nursing Unit is part of Cleveland Clinic Children’s and is dedicated to treating hematology and oncology pediatric patients. Caregivers on this unit provide innovative cancer and blood disorder care for children, including adolescents and young adults. M50 also provides care to pediatric bone marrow transplant patients. As a New Grad RN Resident on this unit, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, from initial introduction to final send-off. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families, and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including further education and online/in-person courses to enhance their skills. A caregiver in this position works a day/night rotation of 7:00AM – 7:30PM and 7:00PM – 7:30AM.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within one year of hire
  • New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Document in patients’ medical records.
