Cleveland Clinic's Emergency Department (ED) has a 23-hour observation unit that provides patients with additional time for evaluation and treatment. Patients may be referred to the observation unit if their condition requires more time than the ED can provide, or if their condition is not clear after an ED visit. During observation, patients may receive additional blood tests, X-rays, consultations with specialists, and treatment. After 24 hours, doctors will re-examine the patient to determine if they need further treatment or can go home. Patients may be discharged home or admitted to the hospital based on their progress. As RN in the Emergency Department (ED), you will help patients feel comfortable, at ease and supported while receiving treatment. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment. Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
• New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experience RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one-year current acute direct patient care RN experience

Responsibilities

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
• Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
• Document in patients’ medical records
