About The Position

The New Build Marine Mechanic and Propulsion Technician is responsible for assembling, installing, and servicing mechanical systems aboard sportfishing yachts. This includes drivetrain components, steering systems, fuel lines, hydraulics, plumbing, and other key mechanical elements. Success in this role requires technical expertise, precision, and the ability to adapt to the specific demands of yacht construction.

Requirements

  • Minimum Degree Required: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: At least one year of hands-on experience in marine mechanics, yacht building, or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of marine propulsion, fuel, plumbing, and hydraulic systems.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools, power equipment, and precision measuring tools.
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Understanding of current marine regulations and industry safety protocols.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Regularly walks, sits, and stands.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation.
  • Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems.
  • Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments.
  • Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HVAC or refrigeration system installation and testing is an asset, though not required.
  • Relevant technical training or ABYC certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install and align mechanical propulsion systems, including engines, drive shafts, struts, and rudders. 10%
  • Assemble and connect hydraulic, exhaust, and fuel systems per technical guidelines and specifications. 10%
  • Build and test plumbing systems to ensure proper functionality and adherence to quality standards. 10%
  • Perform system checks, adjustments, and troubleshooting throughout various stages of construction. 10%
  • Utilize measuring instruments to ensure components meet required tolerances and are properly aligned. 10%
  • Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to ensure accurate installation. 10%
  • Collaborate with other teams to coordinate mechanical installations with electrical and structural systems. 10%
  • Perform pressure and function tests on completed mechanical systems. 10%
  • Adhere to marine safety standards and company protocols during all phases of work. 10%
  • Maintain a tidy and safe work area while following best practices for workplace safety. 10%
