About The Position

Henry Ford Health is seeking a skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a contingent position in Neurosurgery at Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing, collaborative neurosurgery team in a top-tier facility. Prior experience in neurosurgery and/or ICU settings is highly preferred. The ideal candidate is a motivated and adaptable clinician with a solid foundation in managing complex patients in high-acuity environments. Strong communication skills, clinical competence, and a team-oriented approach are essential. The Specialty/Invasive Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The Specialty/Invasive NP will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Works in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience. Works in one of the following departments: Cardiovascular Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ICU, Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery, Urgent Care, Urology.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing
  • Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Current State license as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS/ATLS/PALS provider status as required by department
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) OR Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan OR Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • DEA/CSL, required through credentialing
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
  • Commitment to patient-centered are and continuous professional development
  • Employee Health requires all employed providers to complete a health screen per HFHS policy
  • Successful credentialing process / all offers are contingent on credentialing/privileging

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in neurosurgery and/or ICU settings is highly preferred
  • Prior APP experience is highly preferred - at least 1 year.
  • ICU and/or neurosurgery experience highly recommended.
