Department Neurosurgeons Job Summary The Division of Neurosurgery at Denver Health Medical Center has an immediate opening for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery Division. Under supervision of neurosurgery and neuro-critical care faculty, the provider will provide care to neurosurgery patients. Functions as an advanced practice provider to support the neurosurgery service. Performs and assists with procedures as needed. Teaches medical, physician assistant and nursing students. Essential Functions: Patient Evaluation: Conduct patient evaluations, obtain medical histories and perform physical exams. Complete required chart documentation. (45%) Perform procedures including but not limited EVDs and bolt removal. Assist the neurosurgeon during surgical procedures. Monitor patients in the post-op period. (35%) Teaches medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nursing students who are in a neurosurgery rotation. (20%) Education: Master's Degree for physician assistant/nurse practitioner and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants/ANCC/AANPCB required. Work Experience: 1-3 years related clinical experience preferred. Licenses: PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical License Required or NP - Nurse Practitioner - State Medical License Required BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of medical principles and procedures. Skill in performing physical exams, formulation assessments of and treatment plans for patients. Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to competently perform Neurology specific procedures. Ability to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and continuing education. Accountability for role in department's productivity, efficiency and financial viability.
