About The Position

The Neuropsychologist I evaluates and treats patients in accordance with the reason for referral by the referring physician. Provides assessment and psychotherapeutic support to the patient and caregiver(s) as well as consultation with the Rehabilitation team. Assists in the continuous quality improvement process, program development, administrative duties as assigned, and coordination of any student/intern/fellowship program. Assists in divisional growth to ensure a high quality of care. Provides patient care consistent with Scope of Practice Standards, Standards for Psychological Testing, the American Psychological Association Ethical Principles, the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, the Plan for Corporate Compliance, the Performance Improvement Plan, and the Patient Education Plan. Provides care while maintaining a safe environment, utilizing appropriate communication with sensitivity and attention to special populations, including patients with diverse cultural backgrounds, age, developmental issues and physical disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs evaluations/consultations appropriate to establish protocols which reflect best practice standards (i.e., evidence-based medicine). Ensures there is a written prescription/order for all initial and subsequent evaluations. Develops a comprehensive plan of care that is supported by evaluation findings and prognosticate patient outcomes/progress integrating all relevant factors. Utilizes validated and standardized outcomes measures and provides an efficient evaluation, establishes goals that will demonstrate progress and patient rehabilitation progress (unless evaluation only).
  • Utilizes clinical skill and expertise in a specific population and/or specialty area to provide clinical care through tangible application of evidence-based techniques consistently with clinically significant improvements. Utilizes treatment intervention and strategies within the scope of practice and supported by established plan of care and integration of evidence-based practice to maximize patient outcomes tailored to specific patient populations.
  • Obtains consent and assent of treatment.
  • Identifies safety concerns regarding patient population and institutes appropriate measures to provide a safe environment, including protection of self and others. Reviews identified risks and benefits of therapy and obtains consent from patient and/or caregiver.
  • Patient care documentation is complete, concise, timely, legible, and includes patient in process including functional and measurable short and long-term goals (as appropriate); identifies and facilitates patient discharge needs including documentation, communication with care team, and recommendation for follow-up services.
  • Provides individualized, patient-centered care with respect to personal, cultural, spiritual beliefs and preferences; age-related cognitive and psychosocial needs; social support needs; gender, sexual orientation, and economic background.
  • Contributes ideas and suggestions to continuously improve processes, procedures, methods and productivity, and utilizes quality principles for continuous performance improvement.
  • Independently maintains an up-to-date Clinical Ladder Portfolio, including self-assessment and creation of personal, professional goals, to be reviewed with leadership on at least a semi-annual basis; Serves as a mentor for other clinicians in the portfolio process.
  • Participates and leads activities that promote professional identity within the clinical environment, the Cedars-Sinai environment and the community at large.
  • Participates in professional development through clinical education, formal mentoring programs, further development of clinical and professional competencies, involvement in research and scholarly work.
  • Effectively serves as a clinical instructor/mentor in accordance with specific discipline, regulatory and professional context. Reviews and co-signs documentation as required. Provides supervision according to discipline specific practice acts/requirements.
  • Serves as clinical educator or mentor for at least 1 predoctoral trainee and/or 1 full-time students/residents/fellows/staff or peer for at least 6 months of the year.
  • Participation in academic teaching, research or as a continuing education instructor.
  • Leads and facilitates at least 2 in-services and attends minimum of 8 hours of educational opportunities.
  • Participates in continuous learning and professional development and documents evidence
