About The Position

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Neurology & Implementation Science Research Intern to join our Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI) department. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, internship opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, D.C . with a hybrid work model. Reporting to a Research Supervisor, the Research Intern will support ongoing research initiatives in neurology and implementation science. This role provides an opportunity to learn about and participate in the full lifecycle of research studies, including literature review, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. You will collaborate with experienced researchers to support studies related to neurological conditions, implementation science, and population health research.

Requirements

  • Must be a current student enrolled in a Master’s Degree program in Public Health or a related field; Recent college graduates are ineligible for the internship program.
  • Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours a week, for a minimum of 12 weeks.
  • Minimum work experience: None required, but previous experience in research, public health, or healthcare-related analysis is a plus.
  • Interest or coursework related to implementation science, neurology research, or population health studies.
  • Knowledge of basic statistics, MS Excel, and MS Word required.
  • Must complete CITI Human Subjects’ training and KP Compliance training.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a proactive attitude.
  • Must be able to commute to the Washington, D.C. regional office as needed. Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment.
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reviewing and summarizing published scientific literature is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop literature reviews and summaries to support research projects in neurology and implementation science.
  • Prepare research documentation, reports, and manuscript drafts related to ongoing studies.
  • Partner with MAPRI researchers to analyze and interpret data related to sleep disorders and dementia.
  • Provide support in documenting recommendations for tracking Parkinson’s Disease progression within electronic health records.
  • Lead or contribute to components of research projects under mentorship, including literature synthesis and analysis preparation.
  • Oversee or assist with tracking progress for a research study on genetic screening for cancer risk and monitoring implementation milestones.
