About The Position

This position involves planning and implementing specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy. The role requires collaboration with an interdisciplinary treatment team and provides direction and supervision to other Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, and Rehab Techs in patient care. The role includes performing initial physical therapy evaluations and re-evaluations, designing and revising physical therapy plans of care, and demonstrating advanced knowledge of diagnoses/conditions seen in physical therapy. The therapist will select, perform, and interpret results of PT examinations of neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems, as well as standardized evaluations. They will identify potential problems impacting the treatment plan, establish specific treatment goals, and design coordinated intervention plans. The position also involves implementing and managing comprehensive treatment plans, participating in patient discharge planning, and demonstrating advanced working knowledge of various Physical Therapy techniques with flexibility and creativity. Regular interaction with others involved in patient care is essential for an interdisciplinary approach. The therapist must demonstrate awareness and use of proper safety measures, reassess patient status, modify treatments as indicated, and provide information regarding discharge and follow-up services. Patient, family, and caregiver education and training regarding diagnoses, progress, and long-term functional outcomes are key components. Documentation must comply with chart review audit components, be legible, timely, and utilize appropriate abbreviations and medical terminology. The role also includes attending meetings and in-services, managing assignments, assisting with equipment maintenance, completing charge/productivity documentation, and complying with department policies and procedures. The individual will support Prisma Health's purpose, assume additional team/department responsibilities, provide supervision/mentorship to staff and students, exercise sound judgment in delegating tasks, provide performance feedback, and participate in student orientation and evaluation. Meeting team/department productivity standards and establishing annual goals related to corporate and department initiatives are also expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy
  • No previous experience required
  • SC PT Licensure from the Board of PT Examiners or PT Compact Commission.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency based on patient's age

Responsibilities

  • Perform appropriate initial physical therapy evaluations and re-evaluations and design a physical therapy plan of care.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of diagnoses/conditions seen in physical therapy.
  • Select, perform, and interpret the results of PT examinations of neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems.
  • Perform and interpret standardized evaluations appropriate for the patient.
  • Identify actual or potential problems that would impact the PT treatment plan as well as the overall patient plan of care.
  • Establish specific treatment goals based on the results of the initial assessment.
  • Design the treatment plan appropriate for the patient's age, educational level, and cultural background.
  • Design a plan of intervention that is coordinated and integrated with other services.
  • Revise the treatment plan as indicated.
  • Implement and manage a specific and comprehensive treatment plan, and participate in patient discharge planning.
  • Demonstrate advanced working knowledge of various Physical Therapy techniques with flexibility and creativity in the implementation of these therapy techniques.
  • Interact regularly with others involved in the patient's care to incorporate an interdisciplinary treatment approach for coordinated quality care.
  • Demonstrate awareness and use of proper safety measures regarding the patients, others in the treatment area and self.
  • Reassess patient status in response to treatment and goal achievement, redefine problems and modify goals and treatments as indicated.
  • Provide information regarding discharge and follow-up services which may include a referral to other community resources.
  • Provide education and training to patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnoses, progress, and long-term functional outcomes.
  • Complete the Plan of Care and Patient/Family Education Documentation.
  • Teach, counsel, and communicate with the patient/family/caregiver educational information related to the patient's diagnosis/condition.
  • Provide educational material to patients/families as indicated.
  • Ensure documentation is in compliance with the chart review audit components.
  • Document all aspects of assessment, planning, treatment, and discharge in the medical record in a legible and timely manner.
  • Ensure goals are appropriate and measurable within a specified time frame.
  • Ensure treatment notes are clear, succinct, and contain information regarding treatment progression.
  • Utilize appropriate abbreviations and medical terminology.
  • Attend staff meetings, team meetings, and mandatory in-services as scheduled.
  • Initiate and manage assignments in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Assist with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Complete charge/productivity documentation and enter charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate willingness to assist and be respectful of the rights of other team members.
  • Comply with department policies and procedure.
  • Demonstrate behaviors that support the purpose statement of Prisma Health and demonstrate good judgement in selecting the proper mode of communication which conveys a favorable image of the therapy department and Prisma Health.
  • Assume any additional team/department responsibilities as assigned by department leadership.
  • Provide supervision/mentorship to Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants and Rehab Aides.
  • Exercise sound judgment in delegating task to Physical Therapy Assistants and Rehab Techs.
  • Provide feedback on performance in a professional, tactful and beneficial manner.
  • Provide supervision to Physical Therapy students as assigned.
  • Participate in student orientation and provide effective learning experiences, feedback and timely evaluation.
  • Meet the team/department productivity standards.
  • Comply with the established standards of efficient scheduling to maintain appropriate levels of productivity.
  • Establish annual goals related to stated corporate and department initiatives.
  • Provide supporting information related to the progress made toward achieving established annual goals.
  • Support corporate leadership initiatives.
  • Conscientiously seek consultation or supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
