About The Position

The Neurocritical Care Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will participate in new and ongoing studies related to acute neurological emergencies in adult patients with acute traumatic brain injury and cardiac arrest. These studies include interacting with acutely ill patients and their legally authorized representatives (LAR’s) in the Emergency Department or Intensive Care Units. The appropriate candidate will collaborate closely with specialists from numerous Departments, including Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Trauma Surgery, and Neurology. This position requires the ability to work independently as well as creating and maintaining interprofessional relationships with provider teams at UCI Health. Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with subjects, their LAR’s, and the clinical teams providing care are essential. The CRC will consent LAR’s for acutely ill patients and will possess persistence and flexibility in assuring on-going subject cooperation. Responsibilities will also include chart review, interdisciplinary care meetings, regulatory compliance, grant administration, education of interdisciplinary teams on study protocols, and database management. These functions will be in accordance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP) for sponsored clinical trials. The CRC will also develop and maintain internal standard operating procedures (SOP’s) in line with University Policies and Procedures. Occasionally, this position may require weekend or overnight hours to enroll patients. Ability to take Call. Some work, such as patient screening, telephone encounters, and education development may be done remotely during flexible hours.

Requirements

  • Ability to think critically in compiling and reviewing data from various sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform scientific research including properly evaluating information and preparing concise, well-organized reports and correspondence.
  • Database creation and maintenance using Excel and/or other relational databases
  • Demonstrated skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
  • Research experience especially with IRB, HIPAA and other regulatory documents, study coordination and familiar with GCP and ethical conduct of research
  • High level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines, despite interruptions
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to work collegially and cooperatively in a small office and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Required 2 year of related work coordination Brain Injury experience with Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to take calls
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization
