About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider will assist the Neurocritical Care neurologist on the inpatient Neurocritical Care service. The APRN will see patients in consultation with the Neurocritical Care Faculty and also interact and coordinate clinical services with physicians and nurses from other related specialties at UAMS (e.g. emergency department, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, radiology and residents). The NCC APRN will be certified in NIHSS, Dysphagia Screen, and will be familiar with Modified Rankin Scores and the NCC protocols and stroke protocols and policies. The APRN will rotate in attending monthly NCC and stroke team meetings.

Requirements

  • APRN: Master’s Degree in Nursing – Family Medicine
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas
  • APRN License
  • 1 year of APRN experience in a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Clinic or Rheumatology preferred
  • PA: Master’s Degree – Physician Assistant
  • 1 year of PA experience in a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Clinic or Rheumatology clinic

Nice To Haves

  • APRN: DNP
  • 3 years of nursing experience
  • 3 years of APRN experience in a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Clinic, or Rheumatology
  • PA: 3 years of PA experience in a ICU, ED, or other acute care area

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and physical exams
  • Diagnose acute and chronic illnesses
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, imaging)
  • Prescribe medications and treatments (scope varies by state)
  • Develop and manage treatment plans
  • Provide preventive care and health education
  • Manage chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans
  • Coordinate care with physicians and specialists
  • Provide counseling and patient advocacy
  • Educate patients, families, and nursing staff
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Serve as clinical leaders or independent providers (in full-practice states)
  • Conduct patient histories and physical exams
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and therapies
  • Assist in developing treatment plans
  • Perform other duties as needed.
