About The Position

The Network Systems Engineer II is responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the organization’s network, systems, and endpoint infrastructure. The role supports multi-site operations, oversees MDM and policy management, and handles advanced troubleshooting that the help desk cannot resolve. The engineer leads deployments, tunes security systems, and maintains core identity and access services. This position exists to keep staff connected, devices compliant, and critical services available while supporting ongoing improvements to the organization’s technology and security posture.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree, preferred
  • Experience: 4+ years’ experience in network administration, server administration and workstation management.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License
  • CompTIA Security+ , or equivalent experience and/or knowledge
  • CompTIA Network+ , or equivalent experience and/or knowledge
  • Build, test, and deploy configuration profiles, security baselines, and OS updates across macOS/Windows fleets.
  • Proficiency with MDM platforms, including device enrollment workflows, compliance settings, app deployments, and profile configurations.
  • Maintain device inventories, automated patching rules, and lifecycle management processes.
  • Handle deployments for core applications, security agents, and system dependencies across endpoints.
  • Familiarity with security concepts such as endpoint protection, EDR tuning, vulnerability management, MFA, access controls, and identity security.
  • Experience with system and network monitoring platforms, log analysis, and alert triage processes.
  • Basic scripting or automation knowledge using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to streamline device and policy operations.
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams, logs, and system behavior to diagnose issues across layers.
  • Awareness of human-factor risks and how user behavior affects security posture and operational stability.
  • Familiarity with ITIL concepts such as change management, incident response, and lifecycle processes.
  • Analytical skills to determine the source of problems and provide resolution and suggest ideas to eliminate recurring problems.
  • Oral and written communication skills to communicate with others of varying technical abilities at all levels within Scottsdale USD.
  • Ability to act individually and as a team member in resolving problems and completing projects.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to campus technician team members
  • Patient and people-focused approach to guiding staff through issues or changes.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong ability to prioritize work in environments with limited resources and high demand.
  • Solid vendor coordination skills, especially with vendors, and engineering support teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network operations.
  • Assists with the installation of network equipment and endpoints requiring specialized computer and network for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective computer labs and networks.
  • Assists with planning the installation of computers, network equipment, user applications for the purpose of meeting the technology needs of the district.
  • Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Coordinates with users and other network/computer support staff for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Drafts documentation, user guides, manuals, etc. for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Evaluates hardware and software applications for the network environment both in use and potential acquisition for the purpose of recommending changes that would provide an improved capability to support District needs.
  • Maintains files, records, databases (e.g. network security, data storage, archival procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing resource information in compliance with District requirements.
  • Repairs computers, peripherals, network equipment and software, requiring specialized computer and electronics repair skills for the purpose of maintaining computer and network equipment in a safe and functional operating condition.
  • Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site or transporting equipment for repair.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
