About The Position

The Network Specialist II helps maintain and optimize the City of Edmond’s network infrastructure. The specialist will help configure and troubleshoot network systems, support network upgrades, and resolve technical challenges. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with a proactive approach to staying updated on emerging networking technologies. Ideal candidates will demonstrate both technical expertise and the ability to work effectively within a team environment. This role works Monday through Friday with some on-call work as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • General knowledge equivalent to 2 years of college
  • 4 years of related experience and/or training
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of management experience People and/or project management
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
  • Willingness and availability to be on-call as needed
  • Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
  • Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings

Responsibilities

  • Assist with problem analysis for operator, software, or hardware errors across the server network and security systems
  • Maintain and monitor a multi-site wired and wireless network and software applications on the City's LAN/WAN
  • Install new software upgrades on all network hardware, servers, and applications
  • Design, select, and install complex switching and routing environments
  • Provide assistance and detailed implementation of purchased software packages
  • Maintain Cisco security, remote VPN access, and other applications
  • Maintain backups of all network and server systems
  • Design, configure, and maintain a multi-server virtual environment
  • Assess, implement, and maintain storage
